The 1/10 oz one ounce Krugerrand is the smallest of the four coins and was first issued by South Africa in 1980 with a mintage of 857,000. This Krugerrand contains exactly .1000 ounces of pure gold. Like the other Krugerrands, it is 91.7% pure (22 karat), alloyed with copper. The coins total weight is 3.39 grams and has a diameter of 16.5mm. The one ounce Krugerrand is an affordable investment for everybody, and because of the smaller size they are ideal for making jewellery such as set rings and necklaces.
1/10 oz krugerrands are the smallest of the fractional size krugerrands and for this reason sell with a higher premium than the larger sizes. You may well find the price of single tenth ounce coins 20% to 50% over the spot price of gold. We would recommend only buying the tenth ounce coins if you are looking to buy one or two smaller coins at a time. You may find dealers offering a discount for buying in bulk but it is likely you will be still be paying a higher premium than if you opted to buy quarter or half ounce krugerrand coins.
